Website of the Malta Tourist Authority. With information about travelling
to the country of origin of the Kelb tal-Fenek, accomodation, sights,
addresses etc.
The Island Sanctuary
The website of a non profit charity organisation which cares
for abandoned and stray dogs in Malta. Here you find also some photos and
stories of dogs that look for new homes. However, you will rarely find a Kelb tal-Fenek among these
dogs, since the Maltese Kelb tal-Fenek
owners do highly appreciate their dogs and do well care for them.
Gozo
SPCA
A similar organisation on the island of Gozo.
The Federation For Hunting &
Conservation
Various information about hunting in Malta, game, hunting methods, law,
press releases.
The Malta Kennel Club
Website of an amateur canine organisation in Malta. The Malta
Kennel Club (MKC)
organises dog shows under the auspices of the Fédération Cynologique
Internationale (FCI). However, it happens very rarely that a Kelb
tal-Fenek
appears in this events, since the activities of the (mainly urban) members
of
the MKC are rather focused on stylish foreign breeds than on the rural
Kelb
tal-Fenek breed. The website includes show dates and provides with useful
information about the Maltese pet travel scheme.

Organisations for the preservation of
rare breeds
In many countries, rare breeds of
domestic animals are put under protection. There
is also a number of international networks, which are working on the same
task. Here we provide a number of links to such organisations.
Unfortunately, such a body does not yet exist in
Malta. But we think that a similar programme could
also be useful to secure the future of the Kelb tal-Fenek.

Anubis-List
Oldest English language E-mail discussion list for owners, breeders and friends of the Mediterranean
Hounds, in particular Klieb tal-Fenek
and Podencos Ibicencos. Today, it is mainly used for the exchange of show
brags from the USA and Scandinavia. Discussions about practical subjects
like keeping, health, exercising and breeding have unfortunately become
quite rare.
PharaohHound-List
A small list, exclusively dedicated to the Kelb tal-Fenek. Only little
traffic, usually greetings and show brags.

Kyrgyz Taigan
Kyrgyz
Sighthound Taigan
Rare and endangered breeds of dogs can not only be found in Malta: In
Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous country in Central
Asia, an organisation works for the protection and preservation of a
unique breed of sighthounds, which is nearly unknown to
Westerners: The Kyrgyz Taigan. The Taigan, untouched by western ideas
about shows and breeding, is highly esteemed as a
national treasure by the Kyrgyzstani people.
However, neglection and disregard during the Soviet period
brought the breed close to extinction. The National Society Kyrgyz Taigan
promotes the breed throughout Kyrgyzstan and has set up a breeding programme
on scientific basis. This is not only an excellent example how to protect
a rare dog breed; perhaps it could also be an example for a way how to
secure the future of the Kelb tal-Fenek in
Malta.
